HUMAN ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY

To develop  a greater understanding of  the human body, as well as  the location and function of  each system in the body as follows:  Osteology a study of bones and joints as well as the bony landmarks -  Circulatory system,  a study of the cardiovascular , lymph-vascular systems -  Nervous system.  a hour study or the central nervous system.  Other studies will include  the integumentary, respiratory, endocrine, digestive, excretory, lymph, immune, and reproductive systems.  Pathology and contraindications will also be covered in this section.  This will include the study of diseases and contraindications to assist the therapist in their evaluation of the client.  Kinesiology studies will allow the student to learn therapeutic and professional skills by definition and description of the muscles as well as location, origin, insertion, and action.  The student will have a clear understanding of the musculoskeletal structure and the association with soft tissue manipulation.

BODY CONDITIONING

The students will participate in yoga, and other body exercise throughout the school year.  This will introduce different methods of  physical fitness for the career in massage and incorporates stretching for pre and post sporting events.

TOUCH THERAPY MODALITIES THEORY

The study of theory as it relates to History of Massage (6 hours), Infant massage & Pregnancy massage (8 hours), Chair massage (6 hours), Energy work (6 hours),  Oriental techniques (8 hours),  Reflexology (8 hours) and Hydrotherapy (4 hours).

SWEDISH MASSAGE TECHNIQUES

This section will cover therapeutic skills to be used in massage as a basic foundation.  This will include basic massage strokes: effleurage, petrissage vibration, friction, and tapotement.  The students will learn body mechanics, correct draping procedures, and to describe the physiological effect of the strokes they will learn.

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE/INTRODUCTION TO MEDICAL MASSAGE

This section will cover an extensive study of connective tissue and how deep tissue massage is used as a therapeutic treatment to relieve pain and chronic stress patterns. Utilizes a combination of trigger point therapy, myofascial work and stretching to provide deep tissue relief.

SUPERVISED CLINICALS/OTHER

The students will be able to practice massage techniques on  clients while the instructor supervises the session.  This will give the student  experience in combining all their knowledge in  performing massage as well as client/therapist  relations.  Students will be given an opportunity to practice massage for sporting events such as marathons.

INTERNSHIP

The students will spend time learning Spa techniques, assisting other massage therapists, and learning the inner working of the business on a day to day basis.  This time will also allow massage instructors to evaluate and assist students on a one-on-one basis.  The students will not receive pay for their services.   Internship time can also be used if an instructor needs to place extra emphasis on a previously covered portion of the curriculum.

BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL ETHICS

This section will cover the business and marketing as it applies to the field of massage therapy.  Students will learn professional ethics and understand the laws governing massage in the State of Alabama.  The  student will also learn what to expect in their final exam as well as information about licensing and  National Board testing.  First Aid and CPR certification classes will also be covered in this series.

Curriculum

REFUND POLICY


NAWSM's cancellation and refund policy allows a full refund of all monies paid by a student if the student cancels the enrollment within 72 hours after the registration and payment of down payment and or tuition payments; or if the procurement of the student is found to be as a result of any misrepresentation in advertising, in promotional materials of the school or by their owners, agents or instructors of NASWM.


In the event a student has prepaid all tuition, after expiration of the 72 hour cancellation privilege, fails to enter, withdraws from, or is terminated from the program at any time prior to completion, the student will forfeit the amount of down payment and NAWSM shall refund any unused portion of all tuition based on the following schedule:


1)  If a student withdraws within the fist week of classes, the student will be refunded a prorated percentage of tuition, plus be charges a withdrawal fee of $250.00.

2)  2nd week after classes begin:  NO REFUNDS DUE, tuition is payable in full.


In the event any student on a monthly installment plan withdraws from, or is terminated from the program after the drop date, NAWSM shall retain all monies prepaid and the student will be obligated to pay the remainder of the tuition in full or remain on the installment plan.


NAWSM retains the right to dismiss any student on a monthly installment plan who fails to make the required payment within ten days of the date due  NAWSM is considered to have made a good faith effort to consummate a refund if the student's file contains evidence of certified mail to students last known address.

Payment of Tuition


Students have three options for tuition payment: 1) full payment of tuition at time of registration; 2) monthly payment plan.  Delinquent accounts must be paid in full before students can become eligible for further enrollment or receive transcripts, or may incur a $5.00 per day late charge. 3) NAWSM also accepts Visa and Mastercard
